Scolecite is a delicate and beautiful mineral known for its slender, needle-like crystals that often grow in sprays, fans, or radiating clusters. Most pieces are white or colorless, though some can show soft shades of pink or green depending on where they’re from. The crystals have a silky, sometimes pearly sheen, giving the stone a soft, airy look that’s completely its own.
It forms inside volcanic rock over long periods of time, usually in the cavities of basalt. As mineral-rich fluids flow through the rock, Scolecite slowly begins to crystallize—often alongside other minerals like Stilbite, Heulandite, or Apophyllite. The result is a lightweight, structured mineral that looks almost too intricate to be natural.
Collectors love Scolecite for its fine detail and unique formations. It’s a piece of volcanic history frozen in delicate crystal, and no two are ever the same.
